This is great. I’m no fan of Netanyahu, but as Scott says, you have to give credit where it is due. And I continue to be amazed by the resourcefulness and boldness of the Israeli defense establishment. I imagine that gives the people much comfort and confidence.

So nice to hear from you, Tim! I’ve been thinking of you - we need to set up a time to catch up. (Though I’m going offline for the next 24 hours for Shabbat.) Sending love.

Bravo!! Rabbi. The good news is the rank & file of the Ehrliche ‘Chareidi Bachrim’ are NOT listening to those who want power over them & are דובר אמת in their hearts & see what really is going on. It doesn’t mean they’re all gonna go to the army now, but gradually more and more of those who are not learning full-time, we’ll go to the army ‏בעזרת השם

Thank you for your serious and necessary comment Scott. I can understand how the haredi community likes to stick together in the light of the ideals of some of its leaders, but as you rightly point out many of these young and able men are not such serious students of our Torah to justify their absence from out defensive forces, particularly at this critical time.

We do not have an exact measure of past Biblical history about how yeshiva students responded to the need to join arms and participate in military forces during times of war, but the story of Rabbi Akiba and the way the plague, which might have been a military defeat, was stopped on tu-bis'vat suggests the likewise need for such Torah students to answer the call for giving aid to the defense of their fellow fighters. And during Macabbian times, did not the soldiers there share and give respect to the cleansing and purification of the holy Temple, not as fighters but as sincere and serious Jews. I cannot understand why these days how it is possible for our orthodox leaders to deny the right for us all to become united in the defense of our modern State of israel.

It is as if they don't really believe and accept with God's kindness and grace. that we are living here in our homeland as promised, and as a free people; and this in a world that appears to be gradually disintegrating in a number of different ways, all of which need our serious attention and practical help, too!.
